Cernunnos was a half man/ half animal Celtic/ pagan deity. With antlers/ horns on his head, he was worshipped as a wildish yet peaceful god of the forest.
The oldest images depict him surrounded by animals, dressed in animal skins sitting in meditation, holding a snake in one hand with a crescent moon or wheel above his head. This fascinatingly links him to Shiva/ Rudra from ancient Vedic civilizations in India.
Of course later the Celtic people turned him into more of a randy, hot-blooded bearded fellow, less absorbed in meditation and more beastly and uncivilized.
Perhaps this scared people and is why he was eventually turned into ‘Satan’ by the Christian movement- in traditional European decks this is the Devil card. Interestingly ‘Satan’ comes from ‘Saturn’ which, in astrology, ruled time. Cernunnos was linked with Saturn and the sun and is said to be a god of both dark and light.
Message:
You’re being called to tap into your wild, animal side.
Enjoying pleasures of the body is good for you at this time and even healthy. This could mean sex, letting yourself eat something you normally restrict, or dressing up/ laughing/ being entertained/ letting yourself have fun.
Let yourself speak, think and act from your instincts. Be emotional, ride the current of shakti.
You’re being called to the material world. Treat yourself to a physical thing you wouldn’t normally let yourself buy.
Examine your relationship to money. How do you manage it? How does it flow to you and from you?
Study tantra. Learn to be grounded, in the body more. Get intimate with reality.
Contemplate your shadow side…have compassion for it and integrate your dark with your light.
Examine how you direct your life force energy/ willpower. Are you getting a return on your investment or are you being drained?
Examine any obsessions or addictions that have a hold on you lately. Witness any desires that have their grip on you. Notice the state of desire and attachment without judgment, notice any suffering that comes with it.
Contemplate your relationship to power. Do you feel attracted to power or repelled by it? If you feel powerless, take your focus off the people more powerful/ wealthy and remember those who have less than you and are struggling way worse.
